Current and Recent Work
CIVIC ROLE
In July 2022 I was appointed Bristol’s fourth City Poet by a panel of five judges from Bristol’s cultural, civic and academic communities. During my tenure, I wrote commissioned poems to mark events and occasions including the 75th Anniversary of Windrush Day, Bristol 650, World Book Night, and the general election. I worked with civic organisations including the Bristol Archives, Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, Bristol Council, and Bristol Libraries as well as community projects and campaigns. I also ran Creative Community Mapping workshops with communities across the city. In 2024 Lyra Poetry Festival published the collected poems from my role in the pamphlet Everything Comes from Somewhere.
I recently finished producing my first solo show Dry Season, which explores ideas around identity, aging, and menopause. I was awarded further funding from Arts Council England to expand the project with related poetry events and creative writing workshops.The overall project ran from 2019-2023, and the show and accompanying activities toured the UK from 2022-2023.
No further full shows are currently planned, but please get in touch if you wish to discuss bringing extracts of the show or a full performance to an event.
ONLINE EVENT
SpitFire is a poetry event produced and hosted by myself, and created to platform the talent, voices and experiences of older women and nonbinary poets and counter the youth-centric nature of spoken word.
Developed as part of my Dry Season project and initially online, this event now takes place in-person, most recently in partnership with The Arnolfini, Bristol.
POETRY FILM
On the Impossibility of Perpetual Motion:
In 2020 I was awarded one of 5 commissions from The Arts Institute to make work for their 5x5x5 series. I created this spoken word film in response to the Covid-19 crisis, focusing on the changes weve been forced to undergo, and the legacy of that.
